Wheat City Pins 4-1 Loss on Keys

The Wheat City Whiskey Jacks picked up a win at Polo Grounds 1923, knocking off the Kansas City Keys, 4-1. Starting pitcher Ashton Carruthers was a big reason why. Carruthers got the win, improving to 6-0. He allowed 4 hits and walked 2 over 6.1 innings. Carruthers allowed 1 run. Leo Lopez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 12 of 14 save opportunities.
Wheat City relied on the hitting of Corey DeLauro to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Whiskey Jacks on top, 2-0. For the game, DeLauro had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Whiskey Jacks manager Lookie Wookie, "I like our chances."
With the win, Wheat City raised its record to 40-23.
